TEMPE, Ariz. – Johnny Giavotella, who stands to be protected by baseball’s new rules covering slides at second base, isn’t sure he’s OK with the change.
On Friday morning – before the Angels had yet heard from MLB officials with a full explanation of the changes – Giavotella said he sees the change more from the perspective of the runners.
According to the new rules, runners will not be allowed to change their path to slide into the infielder.
“I’m all about playing hard and helping the team out and taking guys out when need be,” Giavotella said.
