SEATTLE – Jered Weaver is not expecting to need a minor league rehab assignment, which could have him back in the Angels rotation as soon July 20.
Weaver, who is on the disabled list because of left hip inflammation, said he will throw a full bullpen session on Saturday, with a hitter standing but not swinging.
He said he is then expecting to throw some sort of simulated game on Thursday, when the Angels have their workout at Angel Stadium on the last day of the All-Star break.
Asked if he’d then need to pitch in a minor league game, Weaver said “I don’t think so.
