HOUSTON – The confluence of events – a slump for Carlos Perez and an injury for Geovany Soto – has created an opportunity for Jett Bandy.
Bandy was in the Angels lineup to catch a sixth consecutive game on Friday night, a rare workload for any catcher under Mike Scioscia.
Scioscia, a former catcher, said Bandy, 26, has improved defensively and offensively, to earn this shot.
“You are seeing a young catcher that’s becoming more and more comfortable with the defensive side in the major leagues,” Scioscia said. “Everything from the game plan to how he’s physically catching behind the plate is impressive.
