TEMPE, Ariz. – J.C. Ramirez has a new pitch to go with his new role.
Ramirez has started throwing a curveball this spring, an addition he made when the Angels told him they wanted to give him a try in the rotation instead of the bullpen.
Pitching coach Charlie Nagy said Ramirez used to throw a curve, but in recent years he had abandoned it, sticking to his slider and split-finger fastball.
“It’s been good,” Nagy said of Ramirez’s curve. “He’s been throwing it to lefties for strikes.”
Ramirez said the curveball has “made a huge difference.
