TEMPE, Ariz. – The Angels are trying to put together’s baseball best farm system … in 2011.
General Manager Billy Eppler, whose pipeline of young talent is undeniably thin at the moment, has in the last nine months – by design or coincidence – assembled an interesting cadre of players who used to be among baseball’s best prospects.
Since last August, the Angels have acquired four of the players listed among Baseball America’s top 50 prospects in 2011, and a fifth who got there a few years later. None of them have lived up to the hype so far, in part because of injuries.
