NEW YORK – Gregorio Petit has enjoyed this rare moment in his career, when he’s been able to experience life as an everyday major leaguer.
But that may be coming to an end.
Petit, who has been the Angels every day shortstop for most of the last month, is going to lose that spot when Andrelton Simmons comes off the disabled list, perhaps as soon as this weekend.
Simmons, who is coming back from thumb surgery, was scheduled to play on Thursday and Friday for Triple-A Salt Lake City. He’ll then be back in the majors as soon as he feels ready.
