Long eliminated from playoff consideration, the Los Angeles Angels on Friday designated two players for assignment: infielder Luis Guillorme and designated hitter Willie Calhoun.
To take their spots on the active roster, the Angels recalled infielders Niko Kavadas and Jack Lopez.
Kavadas, 25, was inserted into the starting lineup for Friday's home game against the Atlanta Braves. He batted cleanup as the designated hitter for his major league debut.
Kavadas was acquired from the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline, along with three other minor leaguers, for right-handed reliever Luis Garcia.
