Angels’ comeback falls short in ninth inning

The Angels had the game-winning run on first base, but they couldn’t pull off the comeback. They dropped the series-opener Red Sox, 5-4.

Entering the bottom of the ninth, the Angels trailed by two runs. Jose Iglesias led off the inning with a walk. After back-to-back strikeouts, the Halos were down to their final out. After some movement on the base paths, Iglesias ended up at third base. He’d come in to score on a single from Jose Rojas, and the game-winning run was at the plate.

David Fletcher then singled, putting the winning run on the bases for Shohei Ohtani.
