ANAHEIM - The Angels are still trying to shake up their offense. On Tuesday they called up prospect Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake and designated journeyman third baseman Conor Gillaspie for assignment.
Cowart will start at third base and hit ninth at Angel Stadium on Tuesday night.
Cowart had considered giving up hitting altogether and restarting his baseball career as a pitcher. He was about to turn 23 and struggling at High-A Inland Empire after two failed seasons at Double-A.
Once a consensus top-75 prospect, he had tried all kinds of things in an attempt to regain his standing, even temporarily giving up switch-hitting.
