HOUSTON – Joe Smith went for an MRI exam Monday to determine the severity of his sprained ankle. Results were not immediately available.
The Angels’ setup man was hurt when he stumbled walking down a flight of stairs Saturday at the team hotel. He was on crutches and in a walking boot over the weekend in Minnesota.
Generally speaking, the recovery time for even the most mild sprained ankle would be a minimum of two weeks, so there’s a decent chance the Angels don’t get Smith back before the end of the regular season.
“When he gets his arm activated that will start to give us idea where he is, how his foot feels,” Manager Mike Scioscia said.
