Right-hander Victor Alcantara, one of the top prospects remaining in an Angels farm system that is thin on talent, was the only player added to the 40-man roster by Friday's deadline.
Players who have been in the farm system for three years (or four, depending on their age when they first signed) are subject to be taken in next month's Rule 5 draft if they aren't protected on the 40-man roster.
The only notable Angels prospect who was left unprotected is infielder Alex Yarbrough. It is unlikely any team would take Yarbrough because they would have to keep him on the major league roster all season.
