Angels add former Gold Glove 3B Eric Chavez to front office

The Angels have hired former Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez to be a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler.

Chavez, who won six Gold Gloves during 13 seasons with the Oakland A's, played for two years with the New York Yankees when Eppler was the Yankees assistant GM.

Chavez finished his career with two years with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013 and 2014.

Eppler has several openings yet to fill. The Angels have not yet named a new pitching coach or hitting coach, since they let Mike Butcher and Don Baylor go. Baylor has been offered a position to stay in the organization.
