ANAHEIM -- The Angels have interviewed Seattle Mariners farm director Chris Gwynn for their GM opening, increasing to nine the number of known candidates the Angels have interviewed.
The leading candidate is still thought to be New York Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler. Dodgers vice president Josh Byrnes, Blue Jays assistant GM Tony LaCava and Angels assistant GM Matt Klentak are the other remaining candidates who have experience at least at the assistant GM level. Byrnes is the only one who has been a GM, running the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.
The Angels also interviewed Red Sox assistant GM Mike Hazen, but he was subsequently hired as the Red Sox GM.
