ANAHEIM - The day after the Angels lost shortstop Andrelton Simmons for about two months because of thumb surgery, they acquired veteran infielder Brendan Ryan from the Washington Nationals for cash considerations or a player to be named.
Ryan, 34, was immediately added to the 25-man roster and will be in uniform for the Angels on Tuesday night.
Ryan was hitting .263 with a .305 on-base percentage this season at Syracuse, the Nationals' Triple-A team. He is a career .234 hitter with a .295 on-base percentage in nine major league seasons. He hit .229 in 47 games with the New York Yankees last season.
