The Angels acquired veteran outfielder Shane Victorino from the Boston Red Sox for infielder Josh Rutledge, a move that adds to their depth but does not solve their offensive issues.
The Red Sox are also sending cash to the Angels to help cover the remainder of Victorino’s salary. He is due just over $4 million for the rest of the season, and then he will be a free agent.
Victorino, 34, was hitting .245 with a .324 on-base percentage for the Red Sox. He missed much of the season with injuries. He has played just 33 games.
