ANAHEIM - The Angels, who lost third baseman David Freese for at least three weeks with a broken finger, acquired infielder Conor Gillaspie on Friday from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
The Angels are still in the market for an impact bat.
Gillaspie, 28, was designated for assignment by the White Sox. He is a career .258 hitter with a .312 on-base percentage. This season he hit .237 for the White Sox in 58 games.
A left-handed hitter, Gillaspie was the 37th overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Gillaspie will join the Angels sometime this weekend, when they will have to make a corresponding roster move.
