Angels acquire catcher Maldonado from Brewers

Bandy hit .234/.281/.392 in 70 games this season after posting a .337 on-base percentage in six Minor League seasons. Like Maldonado, Bandy hits and throws right-handed.

Maldonado, 30 and arbitration-eligible this winter, is a superior defensive catcher with a cannon of a throwing arm who spent most of the past six years as the backup to All-Star Jonathan Lucroy, appearing in just 355 games over that span. Maldonado is a .217/.299/.342 hitter, but he is better known for his assertive style of game-calling and 35-percent-caught stealing rate.

Maldonado was originally drafted by the Angels in 2004, but he was feisty as a Minor Leaguer and was released in January '07.
