The Los Angeles Angels made the long-expected announcement Saturday that third baseman Anthony Rendon will not play again this season.
The club also activated right-hander Jaime Barria from the injured list and optioned left-hander Jhonathan Diaz to Triple-A Salt Lake.
A leg injury on July 4 has limited Rendon's ability to conduct on-field workouts, but the Angels had been mum on his status until manager Phil Nevin confirmed Saturday that the veteran won't take the field again this year.
Rendon, 33, was hurt when he fouled a ball off his lower leg in a game against the San Diego Padres.
