TEMPE, Ariz. – Al Alburquerque brings the Angels bullpen something they otherwise lack: power.
Alburquerque, who was signed as a free agent last month, has averaged about 95 mph with his fastball over his career.
Of the pitchers likely to contribute to the Angels bullpen this year, the only other one with that kind of velocity is Cam Bedrosian and he has yet to settle in as a major leaguer.
The Angels haven’t gotten consistent power out of the bullpen since they traded Kevin Jepsen after the 2014 season.
“In a perfect world, you’d like to have that balance, no doubt,” Manager Mike Scioscia said.
