Seriously! We are 116 games into the season and I am still wondering what is going on with this team. I thought they had a turned a corner on about 4 or 5 occasions, but then they fall right back into their old funk and lose 5 straight. What is wrong with the Angels? They have just as much, if not more, talent then every other team in the league and yet they continue to remain in a roller coaster ride.
Is it Mike Scioscia? I don't think so. Is it the front office? I don't think that either. I think it is that every player on this team thought they would have no problem making it to the playoffs and then they were put it in over-drive and take the World Series. It almost seems that when Albert Pujols was signed the team figured that all other teams would just throw in the towel. That is not the case at all.
The A's and Rangers are now ahead of the Angels in the standings. Yeah, that is right I did say the Oakland A's. A team that should be nowhere near the Angels, record wise. Yet, they continually find ways to win and make the Angels seem like a minor league team. The Rangers were bound to continue being a very good team. They have made it to two consecutive World Series.
Oh and let us not forget to mention that the Angels made a trade near the deadline to sure up one of the major issues this team has faced this year, pitching. The only problem I see is that they really needed to fix their bullpen before they tried to solve the starting pitching problems. Aside from Ernesto Frieri, I have no confidence in any of those bullpen pitchers. The Angels need to find a way to make sure that they do not continue to lose games late.
Entering Tuesday nights game with Cleveland, the Angels are 8 games out of first place with 46 games left to play. Can they catch Texas? I am gonna say, no way! However, they do have a chance to make it into one of the two wild card spots. They are only 2.5 games out of one of those spots right now. If this team can find a way to get into whatever playoff spot they can get, I expect them to be fair much better in the playoffs. Of course, I have been wrong before about them getting things going. Here is hoping that I am finally right about that.
