It was an important win for Liverpool but, more importantly, it was another desperate night of worry for Wolves after their goalkeeper Rui Patricio was stretchered off after taking a blow to the head in the final five minutes.
Patricio appeared to collide with team-mate Conor Coady as they tried to prevent a Mo Salah ‘goal’ that was rule out for offside. Prone on the turf for more than 15 minutes, Patricio appeared to be unconscious throughout and appeared to be receiving oxygen as he was eventually carried from the field not long before 10pm.
Watched from the stands by Raul Jiminez, who suffered a fractrured skull in a game at Arsenal last November, this was an incident that overshadowed all that had gone before in this game.
