Vrigil van Dijk is sent off against Newcastle after coming through the back of Alexander Isak as Liverpool are reduced to 10-men in nightmare start at St James' Park

Liverpool's error-ridden start against Newcastle at St James' Park was made worse after captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off for a 'rash' challenge on Alexander Isak.

The Dutchman was given his marching orders less than three minutes after Anthony Gordon pounced on a Trent Alexander-Arnold mistake to open the scoring.

Van Dijk came through the back of Newcastle striker Isak in an attempt to win the ball after getting the wrong side of him.
