There is no such thing as safe standing and debate should not be happening just when charges are being brought over the Hillsborough disaster

With that timing we expect of glutinous corporations, the Premier League have chosen to instigate trials of so-called safe standing in football grounds just as criminal charges are being brought with regard to the Hillsborough disaster.

What a way to join the Liverpool families in their muted celebration of the call to justice for which they have campaigned so long.

It is doubtful if any relatives of the 96 victims support a return to the medieval terraces which caused so many deaths and ghastly injuries in football's dark era, even if they are dressed up in sanitised disguise.
