Steven Gerrard should not be pressured into management and deserves a break, says Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso insists Steven Gerrard has earned the right to take a break from football and should not be pressured into becoming a manager.

The Liverpool legend has officially ended his illustrious playing career and will now take the opportunity to spend some time with his family before embarking on a career in coaching.

It is expected that Gerrard will have a defined role assisting Liverpool’s youth teams, though no announcement is expected this side of Christmas; it could even be well into the New Year before anything is determined.
