Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final victory over Equatorial Guinea, just five days after suffering a head injury so bad he had to be taken to hospital.
Senegal defied Liverpool’s request not to play the 29-year-old forward, who was knocked out in a collision with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha in Tuesday’s last-16 tie.
He was cleared to play on for 10 minutes and scored Senegal’s opening goal in that match, but immediately lay down suffering from dizziness and was taken to hospital.
In the build-up to the match there were widespread calls for Mane to be rested, including from Sportsmail’s Chris Sutton.
