Scotland manager Alex McLeish has hailed Liverpool defender Andy Robertson as a ‘role model’ for his incredible journey from the Scottish lower leagues to the Champions League final.

In the space of six years, the 24-year-old Scotland international has risen from the obscurity of the Scottish third division to the single biggest game in European football.

Released by Celtic’s youth ranks for being too small, Robertson was signed by amateur Glasgow-based club Queens Park and made his first-team debut in 2012, before getting his first big move to Premiership side Dundee United after one season.
