Every great manager has a great coach or two working in the background. They don't earn the praise but they are integral to a team's success.
Ronnie Moran was a central figure in Liverpool's glory years of the 1970s and '80s. Most Liverpool fans know about Bill Shankly, the great manager who rebuilt the club in the 1960s. They know about Bob Paisley, who won three European Cups and six league titles in seven years from the mid-70s. They know of Kenny Dalglish, the club's greatest player who made the transition to successful manager in the '80s. Less is known of Moran, the local boy from Crosby who contributed massively to the success of the club during the tenure of each of these Kop heroes.
