Reds on Thomas Lemar standby but face race against time

The Reds completed a £35million swoop for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain subject to a medical on Wednesday, but that hasn’t led to them abandoning their pursuit of France international Lemar.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool have medical staff on standby ready to travel to Paris to carry out another medical if a fee can be agreed between the two clubs.

However, the Reds, who are willing to pay around £75million, face a race against time with their attempts complicated by the player’s international commitments.

Lemar is currently with the France squad preparing for Thursday night’s World Cup qualifier against Holland at the Stade de France.
