Both Steve Heighway and Robbie Fowler made milestone appearances for Liverpool on this day.
Heighway played his 200th Reds game on March 16, 1974 - and duly marked the occasion with the winning goal in a 1-0 home victory over Leeds United.
Fowler, meanwhile, turned out for Liverpool for the 100th time in the Premier League 24 years ago today. Naturally, he scored to help Roy Evans’ side beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield.
That goal was Fowler’s 62nd in the division and took him to 30 in all competitions in the 1995-96 season.
On March 16, 1988, Liverpool set a then-record of 31 consecutive unbeaten top-flight matches by drawing 1-1 at Derby County, while 11 years earlier, Anfield staged one of its greatest nights when David Fairclough’s late strike saw off Saint-Etienne and kept the Reds on course for a first European Cup triumph.
