Ex-Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is set to return to work for the club's Fenway Sports Group owners.
It is expected one of his first tasks will be to appoint a new sporting director at the Anfield club.
Edwards had turned down one approach by FSG to bring him back after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season.
Liverpool have been without a sporting director following Jorg Schmadtke's exit in January and they have been linked with Richard Hughes, who will leave his role as Bournemouth technical director at the end of the season.
