The Manchester City team bus has been attacked by Liverpool fans on a previous high-profile visit to Anfield, it emerged on Thursday.
As City, Liverpool and the police try and piece together with UEFA how and why home fans were able to throw bottles and bricks at the vehicle carrying Pep Guardiola and his players to Wednesday night’s Champions League tie on Merseyside, it is understood that there was already a precedent for such an incident.
Sportsmail has learned that City’s official vehicle came under attack in April 2014 after it left the ground following a 3-2 defeat that had at that stage seemingly put Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side in charge of a title race that was eventually won by the Manchester club.
