Liverpool 'wanted Denis Zakaria from Juventus ahead of Arthur Melo but were forced to go for second option', with Reds failing to agree terms for powerful Swiss midfielder' on deadline day

Liverpool reportedly wanted to sign Denis Zakaria from Juventus instead of Arthur Melo.

According to Calciomercato, Jurgen Klopp's side asked Juventus about the possibility of signing Zakaria, but the Switzerland midfielder instead ended up signing for Chelsea on loan.

Having missed out on Zakaria, Liverpool subsequently moved to sign another Juventus player, Arthur Melo, who arrived on loan.

Liverpool were unable to agree a deal with either Zakaria or Juventus. Chelsea struck a deal to sign him on loan for £2.5m (€3m) with an option to buy for £24.
