Diogo Jota scored his first Anfield brace as Liverpool’s fast start saw them cruise to a routine victory and move up to second in the Premier League table.
Jota, deputising for the injured Roberto Firmino, opened his account in the second minute and added a second after half-an-hour before Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk completed the rout.
The Portuguese forward’s only previous doubles for The Reds had come in away games at Atalanta and Arsenal.

So outclassed were Southampton, they were relieved it didn’t add up to the same 9-0 humiliations they have suffered under Ralph Hasenhuttl against Leicester and Manchester United.
