Liverpool shut first-team training facilities with assistant Pep Lijnders isolating

Liverpool have temporarily closed their first-team training centre amid a "rapidly growing number" of suspected Covid cases, with assistant manager Pep Lijnders the latest to have to isolate.

"Multiple" new suspected cases have been recorded in addition to those from Monday and Tuesday.

The training facilities will be closed for at least 48 hours.

The club said the decision was "made after consultation with the relevant public health authority".

Lijnders took charge for Sunday's Premier League draw at Chelsea, with manager Jurgen Klopp already isolating.

Players Alisson, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino missed that game too and three other staff members tested positive.
