John Houlding famously broke from the Everton board on March 15, 1892 and set about creating a new football club.
And so Liverpool Football Club was born. Now 125 years later, the club boast five European Cups, 18 top flight titles and seven FA Cups - as well as being one half of one of the fiercest rivalries in English football.
To commemorate such an iconic year in the club's history, Liverpool will don a new club crest next season to mark their 125th birthday. The Reds will mark the occasion on June 3, the day the club was officially recognised by the Board of Trade in 1892.
