Liverpool say defender Jon Flanagan has 'severely let down the club' as they prepare for internal disciplinary action after he is fined and given community order for assaulting girlfriend

Liverpool have said they have opened up their own internal disciplinary process after defender Jon Flanagan was sentenced to 40 hours of community service for assaulting his girlfriend.

A statement said Flanagan had 'severley let down the club' after he appeared at Liverpool Magistrates court on Wednesday morning for sentencing, where he was also ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
