Liverpool reveal a DROP in their wage bill in their annual accounts, despite signing Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota, as club chiefs vow they WILL invest more in the squad despite announcing a £4.8m pre-tax loss

Liverpool chiefs insist they remain committed to investing in Jurgen Klopp's squad after revealing their wage bill has dropped despite recording a major pre-tax loss in their annual accounts.

Figures for the period ending May 2021 - which included their first league title triumph in 30 years - show the club made a pre-tax loss of £4.8million.

The Reds forked out £40million on Diogo Jota in that period, while £20million was spent on Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool chiefs are still keen to bolster Jurgen Klopp's squad after their wage bill dropped

The figure of £4.8million was significantly reduced from a £46m loss the previous year in the first season severely affected by the global pandemic, having made a healthy profit in the preceding three years.
