Liverpool FC's Sadio Mane names El-Hadji Diouf as his Premier League hero

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has revealed quite a controversial choice for his Premier League hero - El-Hadji Diouf, the former Red now much-maligned at Anfield.

The Senegal international revealed his compatriot - who played on Merseyside between 2002 and 2005 - was an inspiration when he was growing up.

However, Mane's choice will come as a shock to Reds fans. Diouf, the only No 9 in the club's history to go a season without scoring, has publicly criticised Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Mane, 24, was inspired by Diouf who starred for Senegal at the 2002 World Cup in France as the African nation shocked the hosts before reaching the quarter finals.
