Liverpool Football Club today celebrates its 130th birthday.
On this day in 1892, the club's founder, John Houlding, received the following certificate from the Board of Trade, which ratified the existence of his newly formed team to play at Anfield.
Moves to create Liverpool FC had, in fact, started in March 1892 when Houlding and his close associates split from Everton FC after an acrimonious dispute, launching a new club that would make Anfield its home.
A mission statement was agreed upon: "That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association.
