It was on June 3, 1892 that the club’s founder, John Houlding, received the following certificate from the Board of Trade, which ratified the existence of his newly-formed team to play at Anfield.
The creation of Liverpool FC had actually started three months earlier, in March 1892, when an acrimonious dispute caused Houlding and his close associates to split from Everton FC and launch a new side to make Anfield home.
A clear mission statement was agreed upon: “That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association.
