Liverpool have confirmed Jorg Schmadtke as the club's new sporting director.
The former goalkeeper has been brought in to replace Julian Ward, the current incumbent, who stated his intention to step down from the role last November.
Mail Sport reported earlier this month how the Reds were closing in on a deal to bring in the former German goalkeeper and it has now been confirmed.
Liverpool have released a statement saying the 59-year-old German will begin his new role on June 1, subject to the successful completion of work permit formalities.
Liverpool are hoping Schmadtke - who retired from professional football in 1998 having played almost 300 Bundesliga games - will help them in the transfer window.
