United are keen to make Fernandes their third signing of the summer once their deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka is officially concluded.
The Crystal Palace star has agreed to move to Old Trafford to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second signing, following Daniel James to the club.
Manchester United are still expected to spend more, however, with Solskjaer well aware his side needs more if they are to close the gap on the Premier League elite.
For the bulk of the summer, United have been considered frontrunners in any Fernandes transfer battle.
That’s despite Tottenham also having an eye on the Sporting Lisbon star.
