Liverpool have made a significant appointment to their technical set up by elevating Michael Edwards to the role of sporting director.
Edwards' influence around the club is huge and he will be given the task of running Melwood, Liverpool's training base on a daily basis.
Most importantly, Edwards - who joined Liverpool in November 2011 from Tottenham on the recommendation of Damien Comolli - will be responsible for negotiating the financial side of transfers.
That duty had belonged to Ian Ayre, the club's chief executive, but he is leaving his role at the end of the season to join Munich 1860 and now Edwards will step into the position.
