Danny Murphy has hailed Steven Gerrard as a true Liverpool legend after the 36-year-old former England captain announced his retirement on Thursday.
After making close to 750 club appearances over a 19-year career Liverpool and LA Galaxy, and winning nine titles in the process, Gerrard has hung up his boots.

It is believed his retirement will pave the way for a move into coaching, and his former Reds team-mate Murphy – who said Gerrard was ‘the best midfielder I’ve ever seen’ – believes it’s come at the right time.
