Liverpool have recently implemented a policy that reduces the salaries they pay young players. Some have left the club as a result, with Jordan Rossiter, Jerome Sinclair and Sergi Canos all failing to agree new contracts, but the belief at Anfield is that this is a necessary measure to keep youngsters focused and hungry.
Young footballers getting too much too soon is a problem in the game and some would argue it's one of the biggest reasons why youth players are not coming through at the same rate as they were in the past. There are other, more significant factors (not least a lack of opportunity due to bloated squads), but Liverpool are right to try to curb the spiralling salaries that clubs are paying their academy players.
