Kenny Dalglish has been awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool for his work supporting families affected by the Hillsborough disaster.
The former Liverpool player and manager, who was in charge of the team during the 1989 FA Cup semi-final at Sheffield Wednesday’s ground, in which 96 supporters lost their lives, was awarded he honour along with his wife Marina at a ceremony in the city on Thursday.
The 96 victims of the tragedy were also posthumously given the Freedom of the City during the ceremony at St George's Hall.
In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy Dalglish visited injured supporters in hospital and attended funerals of those who passed away, before backing bereaved relatives as they campaigned for justice.
