John Barnes admits 'things haven't really worked out' for Naby Keita amid the Liverpool star's struggle for form as Anfield legend fears Guinean's place may be under threat as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen this summer

Liverpool legend John Barnes has admitted 'things haven't really worked out' for Naby Keita at Anfield with the Reds midfielder struggling for form after a torrid evening in Madrid.

The Guinean, 26 was hauled off before half time in the Champions League quarter final first leg against Real Madrid, having failed to put a marker down in the midfield battle with Toni Kroos and Luke Modric.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that Keita's substitution was taken in a bid to change the game, and Barnes said that the 'inconsistent' midfielder's Anfield future remains in the air.
