No-one needed to tell Jurgen Klopp about Jan Oblak before Wednesday night’s performance. Liverpool were one of the clubs interested in signing him in 2018. Ultimately his then-€100million (£88m) buy-out clause sent them Alisson Becker’s way, instead.
They can’t be unhappy with the £67m Brazilian but Oblak reminded Liverpool and everyone on Wednesday night that he’s the best shot-stopper in football. If you don’t want your goalkeeper sweeping up 10 metres outside of his own area or playing out from the back between his two central defenders, then there is no-one better than Oblak.
