John Barnes is walking down Blessington Road, in the shadows of Anfield. It’s almost noon on Thursday, the sun is shining and one of Liverpool’s all-time greats is wearing a pair of shades.
When he reaches the corner of Balfour Street, he stops. It’s like a scene from a movie, as he slowly removes his glasses and looks at the scene in front of him. More than a hundred locals have gathered to see how he reacts to something they know has been three days in the making.
