Liverpool have been warned that Timo Werner's £49million release clause will not be lowered by RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff.
The Reds have a longstanding interest in the striker, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, but differing valuations of Werner could be a deal breaker.
The 24-year-old is contracted to Leipzig until 2023 and has a release clause of £49m that must be triggered by June 15, though Liverpool now value Werner at nearer to £30m after the coronavirus crisis impacted finances throughout football.
However, Leipzig CEO Mintzlaff insists the club will not sell Werner for lower than the clause while he still has three years left on his contract.
